Therefore, it is easy to see that this recipe is suitable for both adults and children, even for small children who recently started eating cooked food, but also for those with special diets, such as vegetarians.
Also, for peaky eaters, an advantage of this blended vegetable homemade pasta sauce recipe is that the veggie used cannot be seen, so you can trick the little one into eating certain vegetables that you want to introduce into his diet, but he generally refuses them.
But, let’s take the ingredients that are the basis of this vegetarian homemade pasta sauce recipe and see what benefits we get from their consuming them:
Tomatoes, the star of the sauce, are a treasure trove of lycopene, an antioxidant that has been linked to heart health and skin vitality. When simmered gently, tomatoes release this potent compound, making it more available for your body to absorb. They also provide a rich base, with their natural acidity and sweetness balancing each other in a harmonious blend.
Carrots and red peppers introduce not only a subtle sweetness and a pop of color but are also brimming with beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A, essential for vision and immune function. These vegetables are like hidden gems, enriching the sauce with their nutritional wealth without overpowering the classic tomato flavor.
Red onions and garlic add a complexity to the flavor profile, with their savory notes and health-promoting compounds. Known for their anti-inflammatory properties and ability to support cardiovascular health, these alliums are the unsung heroes of the culinary world, working behind the scenes to elevate both the taste and the wellness factor of the sauce.
The humble celeriac root, with its subtle, earthy undertones, is a powerhouse of dietary fiber, essential for digestive health. Added into the sauce, it thickenings it naturally while contributing an array of minerals and vitamins.
Aromatic basil leaves infuse the sauce with their unmistakable fragrance and a touch of green, a nod to the traditional Italian heritage of pasta dishes. Basil is not just about flavor; it’s also rich in anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, making it a leafy green that’s as beneficial as it is delicious.
Finally, a generous drizzle of olive oil ties all the flavors together while adding a silky texture and a dose of healthy fats. Olive oil is celebrated for its monounsaturated fats, known to support heart health and provide anti-inflammatory benefits.
This homemade tomato-based sauce is more than just a companion to pasta. It’s a heartwarming blend that brings together the best of nature’s offerings. Each spoonful is a reminder of the importance of consuming foods made from scratch — free from preservatives and artificial additives, rich in nutrients, and full of flavor. It’s a celebration of tradition, health, and the simple joy of eating food that’s made with care and intention.
In a world where convenience often trumps quality, taking the time to create a homemade sauce is a choice that pays dividends in health and satisfaction. So, gather your ingredients, use your Thermomix or a simple pot, and prepare for a pasta experience that’s as nourishing as it is delectable.
How to preserve for long term the vegetable easy pasta sauce?
To properly preserve this homemade vegetable sauce made from scratch for long term, i.e., for a year, I recommend that you follow a few simple steps, such as:
- Sterilization of jars and lids used to store the tomato-based homemade pasta sauce recipe;
- Correct cooking of the ingredients;
- Preserving vegetarian Thermomix pasta sauce recipe using the bain-marie method, to ensure that it will not spoil over time.
Let’s take them one by one now…
1. Sterilization of jars and lids required for homemade vegetable Thermomix pasta sauce
First of all, it is extremely important to clean the jars well, with dishwashing solution and rinse them with hot water, until completely clear.
They will then be left to dry, after which they will be carefully placed in a tray, positioned with their mouth upwards.
After that, heat the oven to 180o Celsius (356o Fahrenheit) and insert the tray with jars into the preheated oven. Now, lower the oven temperature to 130o C -140o C (266o F -284o F) and leave the glass containers in the oven for about 30 minutes.
After that time, leave the tray in the oven until the oven cools down. It is safe to remove both the containers and the lids, and fill them with hot boiled homemade vegetarian Thermomix pasta sauce recipe, even if they are still warm.
That’s all regarding the preparation of jars and lids, or what we call the sterilization of glass containers and lids.
2. Correct cooking of the ingredients
It is extremely important that the ingredients used to make this kidsfriendly homemade tomato pasta sauce are cooked enough, because if we rush and don’t cook them as much as needed, we risk that our sauce will spoil over time. Therefore, please carefully read the step-by-step recipe and allocate the necessary time for the preparation of this canned vegetable thermomix pasta sauce recipe before starting the cooking process.
3. Preservation of canned homemade vegetable pasta sauce using the bain-marie method
The third important step, which will be carried out at the end of the vegetable pasta sauce preservation process in glass jars is boiling them, using the Bain Marie method. This way, we sterilize the homemade pasta sauce inside the glass container, as well, making sure it will not spoil over time.
Thus, after filling the containers with the homemade vegetable easy pasta sauce recipe, we close the lids well and place the jars in a pot or tray on the bottom of which we lie down a textile kitchen towel, to prevent the glass container from breaking on contact with hot metal.
Depending on our availability or the number of jars we want to preserve, we have two Bain Marie sterilizing options: on the stove or in the oven. For the detailed process of the Bain Marie Canning bath method, please read the instructions presented in the article dedicated to food preservation guide or in the homemade ketchup recipe. So, if you follow these three simple rules, you will get a canned vegetable tomatoes pasta sauce that will last without problems in the pantry, for a year after cooking.
