I mainly enjoy to prepare it in the winter season, because I gives me a winter holiday kind of feeling, but I think it’s a great choice also for spring, summer or any time of the year. So, whenever you feel like wanting to taste a homemade chocolate fudge, feel free to try out this super easy and delicious recipe.
What’s the difference between chocolate and fudge?
As you already noticed from the title of the article, I chose to present you today a very simple recipe for 5 ingredients homemade chocolate fudge. To be able to continue with explaining the steps of the recipe, it is important to understand from the beginning, what is the difference between chocolate fudge and simple chocolate.
For this, I will make a brief analysis of the two types of dessert. Thus, while fudge is a dessert that is based on a mixture of sugar, butter and any derivative of chocolate or cocoa beans, simple chocolate bar is prepared with cocoa beans and cocoa butter as the main ingredients.
Based on this statement, I dare to say that any chocolate you want to buy from the store must contain at least 80% cocoa and to be melted with cocoa butter in order to be considered a quality chocolate. If on the ingredients list of the chocolate you want to purchase you will find any alternative to cocoa butter, such as palm oil or any other vegetable oil, I recommend that you think twice before putting it in shopping basket.
Therefore, our recipe today, being an extremely simple recipe for homemade chocolate fudge, will be based on simple ingredients such as brown sugar, water, butter, powdered milk and carob powder, because I chose to prepare kids friendly chocolate fudge.
What’s the difference between carob powder and cocoa powder?
As I already stated in the article about the Raspberry and Mascarpone Cream Roulade recipe, since my daughter Sofia was born, I have chosen to replace, when possible, cocoa powder with carob powder. I made this decision because I considered it more suitable for the diet of young children to use carob powder, because it contains more nutrients than cocoa powder and it is lower in fat. If you want to find out more about the main nutritional differences between cocoa powder and carob powder, you can find several comparisons where the conclusion is that carob powder has several nutritional advantages, such as:
– It contains three times more calcium than cocoa powder, which represents a huge advantage for child body development, especially because it increases bone strength and improves teeth health;
– Has more fiber, which helps the well-functioning of digestion, which is also important for children’s development;
– It has significantly less fat and fewer calories, if you need to pay attention to your diet.
Thus, I chose to replace cocoa powder with carob powder, but no matter which one of these two ingredients you choose in your recipes, I believe that both are nutritious and beneficial for the body of children and adults.
Is chocolate fudge healthy?
As I already mentioned from the first post on this blog, I am doing my best in trying to prepare daily delicious and healthy recipes for my family. For this, I started replacing several ingredients from classic recipes with others that I consider to be healthier. Also, I try do to my best in finding the best ways to convert classic recipes into kids friendly recipes.
In this case, the homemade chocolate fudge recipe described in this article, based on the ingredients used and the amount of sugar which is dramatically reduced, I think that I achieved a healthy kids friendly recipe for the 5 ingredients homemade chocolate fudge.
The list of ingredients for this homemade chocolate fudge is extremely short and based on simple and nutrient goods. In addition, you can add nuts, raisins, cranberries, almonds or any other filling, but this is not necessary. The homemade chocolate fudge can be served simple, without any other ingredient in the composition than the 5 main ingredients, which are: water, carob/ cocoa powder, sugar, powdered milk and brown sugar. If you don’t have powdered sugar you can replace the water and the powdered sugar with whole milk and then your ingredients list decreases from 5 ingredients to 4 ingredients 😊

So, whether you choose to use carob or cocoa powder, powdered milk with water or whole milk, the recipe described here is suitable for any choice you make.
I prepared this recipe using the Thermomix, but you can simply stir the ingredients into a pot by using a whisk or a spatula and you will get the same delicious final result.
Also, if you have a chocolate mold, this would definitely help you achieve a nice and easy to break apart shape for your homemade chocolate fudge. If you don’t, simply pour the composition into a baking tray covered with baking paper, like I did.
Homemade Chocolate Fudge – the 5 ingredients recipe
Equipment
- 1 Thermomix
- 1 Tray
Ingredients
- 100 g brown sugar
- 100 g water
- 80 g butter
- 250 g powdered milk
- 30 g Carob powder or Cocoa powder
- 80 g Mix of nuts raisins or cranberries (as you prefer) Optional
Instructions
- Put the sugar and the water in the mixing bowl, and let them boil, without the measuring cup, using 15 min – 120°C – Speed 1.5;
- Add the butter into the bowl and melt it for 30 sec – Speed 2;
- Add the powdered milk, the carob powder and the nuts/raisins/cranberries;
- Wait until the temperature in the mixing bowl goes down to 60℃, then use the MILL – Speed 3.
- At the end, pour the composition on a backing tray covered with backing paper and let it cool down. Leave it in the fridge after night to harden the fudge.
