Waffles represent a dish that is cooked on both sides of a dough. Nowadays there is a wide variety of waffle makers, with various shapes and sizes. But, a long time ago, in Ancient Greece, people cooked dishes similar to our waffles, using hot metal plates.
Later, in various European countries, such as Belgium or France, all kinds of recipes appeared, mainly sweet ones, which seem to represent the origin of the waffles that we cook today.
And as it happens in any other field, people began, over time, to diversify the way they cooked these waffles. If at first the dough was very simple, containing only eggs, flour and water, later water was replaced with milk, because this gives the dough a creamier texture and a more pleasant taste.
In addition, little by little, the waffles started to have all kinds of different flavors, whether we are talking about flavors that come from different spices or from certain ingredients.
In this case, apple and cinnamon waffles represent an extremely tasty recipe, considering the fact that grated apples or apple puree is used in the composition for the waffles. This gives the final dish a delicious taste, a unique texture and makes this snack a very healthy one.
If you love waffles, please remember that 25th March is the International Waffles Day, so check out this easy homemade apple waffles recipe that I made, to make it in your own kitchen if you want to celebrate these amazing sweet treats.
For me, the apple and cinnamon waffles represent a great choice especially for kidsfriendly sweet inspiration. This way I can give my daughter a healthy sweet breakfast or snack. First of all, I have this possibility because I use apples grown organically, in the family garden, and these apples can be kept throughout the cold season in the cellar, without spoiling. Secondly, these tasty apples used for the composition of waffles give me the opportunity to make sugar-free waffles.
Having said that, I think that in this period, when most of the bakery products that we find in stores are full of sugar and many other ingredients that are not exactly healthy for children, the idea of cooking homemade apple and cinnamon waffles, using organic apples and without added sugar, is an excellent idea for any young mother.

Benefits of Eating Apples
In the whirlwind of busy mornings and hectic schedules, finding nutritious yet delicious breakfast or snack options for our little ones can be a challenge. But fear not, because the humble apple is here to save the day! Packed with essential nutrients and bursting with flavor, apples are a parent’s best friend when it comes to supporting children’s development.
First and foremost, apples are rich in dietary fiber, which is crucial for maintaining a healthy digestive system in growing bodies. A single apple contains a significant portion of the recommended daily intake of fiber, helping to prevent constipation and promote regular bowel movements in kids.
Furthermore, apples are a powerhouse of vitamins and minerals essential for overall health and well-being. Vitamin C, abundant in apples, boosts the immune system, helping to ward off pesky colds and infections that can disrupt a child’s daily activities. Additionally, the array of antioxidants found in apples provides protection against oxidative stress, supporting brain health and cognitive function.
But the benefits don’t stop there! Apples are also a natural source of energy, thanks to their carbohydrates content, making them the perfect fuel for active kids to power through their day. Whether it’s a morning of school or an afternoon of play, snacking on apples can help sustain energy levels and keep hunger pangs at bay.
And let’s not forget the delightful combination of apples and cinnamon, a match made in culinary heaven! When incorporated into mouthwatering recipes like apple and cinnamon waffles, these two ingredients not only tantalize the taste buds but also offer a symphony of health benefits. Cinnamon, known for its anti-inflammatory properties, complements the sweetness of apples while providing additional antioxidants and aiding in blood sugar regulation.
So, next time you’re planning a nutritious and satisfying breakfast for your little ones, consider whipping up some apple and cinnamon waffles. Not only will they be delighted by the delicious flavors, but you’ll also be nourishing their bodies and supporting their development with every wholesome bite. I didnβt use sugar for this recipe because my apple and pear were very sweet, so when I tasted the dough, before cooking it, I thought it was sweet enough for my taste. I used the Thermomix to make these delicious easy homemade apple waffles, but if you donβt own this kitchen gadget simply use a bowl and a whisk or a mixerΒ and I guarantee you will be able to enjoy these delicious apple and cinnamon waffles at home.
Pairing Suggestions
As I already mentioned, apple and cinnamon waffles go perfect with maple syrup or honey, but if you are willing to experiment more complex culinary combinations, serve these amazing healthy waffles with vanilla ice-cream of fruit jam.
Also, these easy homemade apple waffle can be sprinkled with icing sugar and served with fresh fruits.
I would also suggest to top the waffles with Chocolate and Hazelnut Spread, if you are a chocolate fan.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
The most frequent mistakes in making a waffles recipe refer to the incorrect adjustment of the quantities of ingredients. Therefore, please keep in mind that the composition for waffles must be a little thicker, but it is not necessary to turn it into a cookie dough.
Therefore, this dough must be fluid enough to flow, but at the same time consistent enough to bind when the waffles are baked in the waffle maker.
Especially for waffle recipes that also contain fruit, as is the case with this apple cinnamon waffles recipe, it is important to adjust the amount of flour according to the amount of fruit, because the fruit will leave water during the baking process. Therefore, if the first waffles seem a bit soft, it is important to add a little more flour to the dough.
Also, it is important to cook the waffles until they are golden brown. Apple and cinnamon waffles have a darker color than classic waffles after baking.
Storage and Reheating Tips
I usually store the remaining apple and cinnamon waffle into metal or plastic casseroles, with lids. I would recommend you to store them in a cool place, like the refrigerator or the pantry, because the dough contains eggs and this makes them pretty easy to spoil if stored in room temperature.
My advice would be to place them into the containers and close the lid only after they are completely cool, to avoid softening from the heat released in the dish.
If you want to serve them with other occasion, you can do this be reheating them for 1 minute in the microwave, or simply enjoy them cool.

Yes, there is. Pancake batter is typically characterized by its slightly runnier consistency, designed to spread thinly and cook up soft and fluffy with a hint of tenderness, perfect for soaking up syrup and butter. This not only contributes to a richer flavor but also achieves the crisp exterior and airy interior that waffles are celebrated for.
